FAQ

Do you provide virtual or in-office appointments?

I am currently providing only telehealth and am not offering in-office appointments, although this might change in the future.

Can I see you regardless of whether or not I’m in CA?

Unfortunately, no. Since I am only licensed in CA, we can only meet if you are in CA.

What is your cancellation policy?
I have a 48-hour cancellation policy, which means you have to let me know at least 48 hours before your appointment if you need to reschedule or cancel your session. If my schedule allows for it and I can see you later that week, you won’t be charged; however, this depends on my availability, which differs each week and is subject to change.

How often should we have appointments?

It is important to have weekly sessions, especially at the beginning of treatment. Later, however, we can discuss reducing sessions to biweekly or monthly, depending on your progress in therapy and how you are feeling.

I may not be able to afford therapy. What should I do?

I offer a limited number of sliding-scale slots, which are reserved for those who are under- or unemployed or with general financial insecurity. If we cannot find a fee that works for both of us, I can refer you to local therapists who charge reduced fees.

How will I know that I’m benefiting from therapy?

One benefit of setting goals is that it helps us assess your therapy progress. At times, progress will be tracked using screeners (e.g., for depression and anxiety), which gives us an idea of the severity and number of symptoms you continue to experience. In addition, progress is determined qualitatively by looking at one’s “level of functioning.” For example, let's say a client comes to therapy to address her depression, which makes it difficult for her to socialize with others, take the garbage out, and go to work. If the client can do these activities more frequently, we can assume she benefits from therapy.

How long will I be in therapy?
This is a complicated question to answer and depends on what kind of goals you want to address in therapy and your rate of progress toward these goals. Sometimes, goals can be addressed in time-limited therapy (e.g., a few months); however, at other times, some goals are more complex and can take several months to achieve. There are some clients, however, who prefer long-term therapy (e.g., years), viewing it as a regular part of their self-care maintenance plan. That said, it’s not always possible to gauge how long one will be in therapy; however, together, we will decide whether or not therapy is working for you and if it makes sense to continue.
